2: Bodrum
Bodrum is a charming and fascinating peninsula with its atmosphere. 30.000 reside in the Bodrum area. The people of Bodrum earn their living by fishing, boat-building, agriculture, weaving and tourism, which has become the most important industry in the last few years.
In recent times Bodrum has become not only a tourist centre but also a visiting place for famous Turkish and foreign artists and also an art centre. The Antique Amphitheatre is one of the famous places for both local artists and foreign ones because of all the entertainment. Concerts are prepared in summer in the open air with thousand of spectators with the panoramic view over the castle and the sea.
The heart of the town is around the harbour, where shops, bars and restaurants jostle together in the narrow streets under the shadow of the St. Peter Castle. The main artery is Cumhurriyet Caddesi (Republic Street), much better known as Bar Street.
Besides shops, bars and restaurants you can always return home with a pair of hand made snugly fit leather sandals in traditional Aegean style.
The Bar Street is always busy by the locals also the tourism from abroad and different parts of Turkey. Along the Bar Street you can always see different souvenirs shops as other touristy destinations abroad, with its different taste and smell also, the mixed music from the different bars.
Since the time of King Mausolos, Bodrum has been an important centre for boat building. Ptolemäus from Egypt had his warships made here in 300 BC.
In April 2006, the new Milas – Bodrum airport opened with excellent connections. Scheduled Turkish Airlines and International charter flights are now arriving regularly. The long transfer from Izmir or Dalaman now belongs in the past.
Bodrum Konacik
Konacik is located towards the middle of the peninsula and is the highest of its settlements. Within its borders lies Pedasa, the ancient site of most that remains of the Leleg culture on the peninsula. The ruins are accessible on foot from the village of Gökçeler above Konacik. The surrounding area is rich in wild flowers and herbs such as sage, thyme and lavender. After a steep climb, you will be rewarded by a spectacular panoramic view. Konacik is also the main artery for commerce, with several modern shopping centres, stores and hypermarkets at the side of the road.
Bodrum Town
Back in the old days Bodrum’s name was Halikarnassos, and it was an important harbor city. Today, Bodrum is a modern and beautiful city Turkeys answer to the French Riviera.
The castle is majestically situated next to the harbor and gives it a charming atmosphere, which is also the case for the whole city of Bodrum. King Mausoleus mausoleum is just one of the historical sites to visit, and the main street of Bodrum is packed with restaurants and bars for you to enjoy.
When the temperature is rising you can enjoy swimming in the sea, or explore the many exiting places in Bodrum.
Two times during the week, a lively market takes place in Bodrum, and local people arrive from surrounding villages to sell their goods. From Bodrum’s Otogar, you have good bus connections when wanting to visit other parts of Turkey.
Bodrum Gümbet
Although almost joint to Bodrum itself, Gumbet is fast becoming a self-contained resort. Some of the most popular hotels in the region are to be found in and around Gumbet Bay. The sandy beach, a Mecca for sun worshippers, is within easy walking distance of the town and most hotels, making Gumbet a favourite spot for families with children. Cafes and bars are proliferating along the beach, and there are plenty of fun water sports like skiing, scuba diving, windsurfing, boating and parasailing for the young and the young at heart. Gumbet's night life is second to none, several air-conditioned and sound proofed discos and a multitude of pubs and bars boasting. Also you can get very fresh fruits and vegetables at less cost in Sunday markets in Gumbet.
Bodrum Gümüslük
Gümüslük has the same location as the ancient city Myndus had many years ago. Today, both town and area are well developed, but traces of the ancient world are to be seen everywhere. Major parts of the ancient city is today (below the waterline), and it is an exciting area to explore when scuba diving or snorkeling.
The towns’s major attraction is its wide selection of fish restaurants, and they are well worth dining at while staying in Bodrum. The fish restaurants are placed by the sea, and after a delightful meal, one can either choose to relax and doze off, or take a walk to Rabbit Island. If you don’t want to get wet feet, the only option is going there when the sea is low tide.
There is a good bus connection to and from Gümüslük to all areas of Bodrum.
Bodrum Yalikavak
The town of Yalikavak is a very popular alternative to Bodrum town. Like most other towns on the Bodrum peninsula it used to be a small fishing port. The atmosphere has remained quiet and relaxed. There is still a thriving fishing industry but now also supported by a growing tourism sector. In the harbour area you find the best restaurants and bars but a short distance from the centre the local restaurants serve real Turkish lunch such as kebab, pide and sulu yemek. Every week on Thursdays the town hosts a big market with fresh fruit, vegetables and clothes. Go to the beach and take a relaxing break or a swim in the bay. There are good connections with public dolmus buses to the neighbouring towns or to the larger shopping places in Bodrum

Tuzla Lake is a protected nature reserve because every winter thousands of flamingos roost here. Because of that, the area will always remain nice and green. The Lake is separated from the agean sea by a low dam which supports the connection road to Bodrum (25km) and the airport (8km). Along the inlet there is a nice fishing village where there are delicious fish restaurants. On the other side of the inlet is the Aegean sea and the beach. An Investor started the golf course project this meant the interest for the area started to increase partly because of the nice nature and the fact it is close to the airport, the beach and the favourite holiday city – Bodrum. We expect huge price increases around the Tuzla Lake because there are limited building plots.
